Company History

Michael originally planned to setup his own company back in 2000 as part of work he was doing when uploading original music tracks to Mp3.com, the now defunct service that was the worlds first online only, digital record label and music distribution platform.

“At the end of 1999, MP3.com launched a promotion that allowed these artists to monetize their content on the site. Called “Pay for Play” or P4P, it used an algorithm to pay each MP3.com artist based on the number of streams and downloads of their songs.”

Back then I had a different name. I changed my name in 2024. See …

When returning to my plan to setup a company, in 2022 Michael began a BA(Hons) Creative Music Technology at Falmouth University. The faculty head was Dr.Antti Sario, head of music. The course leader was Dr. Simon Waite. As part of this business orientated course (see here ) Michael setup his umbrella company Freeman Marketing Services LTD ( Companies House ) in 2025, under which Apps for Artists trades.

Developer Story

Drawing on over 30 years of experience as a DJ and technologist, Michael began as a technological creative in the 1980’s in his childhood. Beginning with the Sinclair ZX81 and then ZX Spectrum he learnt BASIC and coded his first game. His interest was always one that fell between creativity and technology. Setting up an early VJ’ing performance for his (slightly bemused) Grandparents where the Spectrum flashed colours on the screen while various synthesised noises were made.

Michael became a DJ in the early 1990’s as the rave and party scene rapidly developed across the globe. He released his own tracks on the defunct mp3.com in 2000 as well as taking advantage of the new field of digital DJ’ing and music production as it rapidly developed in the early 2000’s.

Getting up to 2016 Michael developed a virtual DJ turntable using Blender Game Engine. On his BA(Hons) Creative Music Technology at Falmouth University he developed it into a “physical model” of a DJ turntable using Cycling 74 Max. This was the first physical model of a DJ Turntable, similar to physically modelled violins or trumpets which mathematically model the physics of the instrument to provide authentic sounds. For example Ableton Live comes with Tension that physically models strings. Michaels Phys DJ Ableton Max for Live instrument, and in development Unity project, is the first DJ turntable software instrument of its kind. Capable of producing turntable effects that are almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

On Michael’s course from 2022 to 2025 he learnt the importance of liveness and gesture in DJ’ing and music production which informed him about the critical need for the appropriate use of technology in the area of music production. This led to the development of REAPER Assistant (also see here ) using the new SIRI AI which is intended to be an assistant to the musician producing music. Far from the use of AI to produce rather dubious sounding, automatically produced tracks, the project is intended to assist in focussing the creativity of the human musician, “All of us!” as Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, so aptly put it.

This led to Michael being invited to a prestigious Apple Developer Workshop in June 2026 which he attended at Canary Wharf in London where he met Apple engineers Alberto Ricci (Evangelist, Senior Partnership Manager at Apple) and Steven Woolcock ( Director, Developer Relations, EMEA @ Apple). Michael remains in contact with them in an advisory role for the REAPER Assistant app.

Michael has worked to obtain investment in Apps for Artists (trading name of Freeman Marketing Services LTD) in the form of cloud platform credits that are financing the assistance of AI agents to develop the software as well as the company. $4000 from Microsoft for Startups for the Azure platform, which is currently pending another $25,000. As well as $1000 from AWS Startups as well as a further pending application for Google Cloud for Startups.

The investment will help Michael develop the following apps.

Apps

REAPER Assistant / SIRI AI DAW Assistance

In development. AI agent assistance for the creative musician.

ShareRaven, Share to Social Media (X) in macOS

In development. Close to release. Apple macOS used to have a share to social media button many years ago. That was removed. ShareRaven solves that by adding a dedicated share feature in Apple Photo’s, Apple Music and any other app that can use the Apple share feature.

Phys DJ – A Physically Modelled Simulation of a DJ Turntable

In development. Bringing real turntable virtuosity to DJ software, DAW’s and controllers. Many apps and DJ controllers claim to provide “vinyl” turntable effects but have never solved the problem of physically modelling a real DJ turntable. Until now. Real turntable effects from scratching, to physics based slow downs, and other effects, that depend on modelling the physics of a heavy turntable platter and its interaction with a slipmat.

Max for Live device in production …

Experimental, intermediate, iPad to macOS via DVS time code synthesising helper app …

There will be a release of the Max for Live device. Beyond that Phys DJ will be released for macOS, Windows, Android and iOS by using Unity.

Gyro DJ

Working from the expertise gained through Phys DJ, Gyro DJ aimes to compete with Phase DJ undercutting its pricing. A test rig is currently being developed using an Adafruit device.

Photo Montage – Set Multiple Photo’s as Wallpaper

Product ideation and spin off Filter Browser app (see below).

Filter Browser – Apple Core Image Filter Effects Discovery for Developers

First developed as a development tool for Photo Montage, the app has developed into a fully fledged Apple Core Filter effect discovery app intended to be sold to developers.

FCPX Auto-Duck Pro

Apple Final Cut Pro cannot automatically “duck” (reduce the volume of music) while its playing in the background while some is speaking. This product provides a plugin to do hat.
